My last bit of homework from the #doodlesunleashed workshop with Traci Batista. The work shop lesson was titled “Girlie Glam” but I felt compelled to add my own twist to the assignment. I am calling this one “Tiki God Glam”

This bit from Dr. Demento brings back so many funny memories from some of the best times in my life with my funniest and bestest friends

‎#photofriday This little green anole lizard was hanging out on a fishing float I had found beach combing. He was pretty friendly and very interested in my Cloudbow instrument that I was outside taking pictures of for the video I made featuring it. You can watch the video at facebook on my video page and over on youtube.

Stylized Horned Guy, mixed media on canvas

Ain’t nothin’ in this world better than drawin’ me some monsters! That little horned guy above is the product of the last lesson in the Strathmore online workshops by the lovely Traci Bautista. I may have broke the rules a bit but hey! isn’t that what art is about?

Traci’s lesson was about painting stylized faces on a prepared background made with stencils, graffiti letters, and stamps. I made a couple of backgrounds last week but only chose one to work with and chose the smallest one. There was no way I was going to try to draw/paint the way Traci did, it just isn’t my style. I painted a monster instead, and didn’t use glitter or shimmer paint. I think monsters are a bit more universal than “glam girls”, and I thought it would be funny to have a monster pop up in the group photos! haha

I did learn something though. I am quite the perfectionist when it comes to artwork and craftmanship, so this really was a challenge for me. Her online class has really taught me to let go, be loose, and brainstorming and doodling can actually be used in final work. I am actually going to miss the class, the members, and updating about it. If you haven’t seen some of the work, you can check out the Doodles Unleashed flickr group

Can you believe it’s Thursday already!? January is outta here…

I am not going to shut up about this. If we don't come together, ACTA will wipe out the internet as we know it BY TOMORROW.

ivysaurr:

ACTA is an international version of the SOPA and PIPA bills. It is as much of a threat to us (in the U.S.), if not more. And this affects everyone. All around the world. Please, take the time to sign this petition against ACTA and share it with your friends and family, especially if they live in different countries.

There’s so much work sitting around I haven’t been so great posting in chronological order. I usually like to write a bit about each piece and post it accordingly, but I completely forgot about this one!

My good bloggin’ buddy Chongolio sent me a sweet mail package a while ago full of collage pieces, stickers, and even rice paper! I immediately went to my sketchbook to use the stuff he sent. I made three pages all together, one with blackout poetry, one with an orange tag, and one to accompany a list I had just made. Well, when all that was said and done and I was satisfied I went straight to work on a bigger piece. I wanted to use the old book pages he sent, because they were browning on the edges and seemed mysterious!

I kept things simple when it came to color, but added elements of stitchings, text, and my own drawings. I photocopied an old sketchbook page from the summer, and it was perfect for this Polynesian theme that the book pages called for. It’s small, about 9 x 12 but it has a lot of character! Happy humpday artlings!

Make good stuff, then make it easy for people to buy it. There’s your anti-piracy plan.

My Hawaiian style diddley bow, or doodley bow, is 30” long and 2.5”wide and 2” inches tall. I used a guitar tuning peg, a Hawaii mint tin and some scrap wood to build it. the paint job was done with acrylic paint and paint pens. I also used a metallic gold pen for the outlines. Small felt pads were stuck to the bottom of the feet.

You can see it in action on my youtube channel page:
